Convert WebP to JPG in three steps
- Add your WebP files. Drag WebP images onto the box, click Choose files, pick a whole folder, or paste a WebP image you copied. You can add more WebP files at any time.
- Pick JPG settings (optional). JPG quality is 92 by default, which keeps the JPG visually identical to the WebP. Choose a background colour for transparent WebP images and, if you need smaller JPG files, a maximum width.
- Download your JPG files. Click Download next to each JPG, or Download all (ZIP) for a whole batch.
Each file is converted the moment you add it. If you change a setting afterwards, every file in the list is converted again, so you can compare quality and file size before you download.
Why this WebP to JPG converter runs in your browser
Most online converters send your images to a server, convert them there and send the result back. This one does the work on your own computer or phone. Your browser already knows how to open WebP images, and it can save any image it shows as JPG. The converter uses exactly that: it decodes each image and encodes it again as JPG, without a round trip to anyone else.
- Private: WebP photos, screenshots and documents never leave your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.
- Fast: there is no upload or download wait, so a conversion takes a fraction of a second per image. Large batches run in background threads and the page stays responsive.
- No limits: convert as many files as you want, as large as your device can handle. No daily quota, no watermark, no account.
- Works offline: once the page is open, the converter keeps working without an internet connection.
What is a WebP file?
WebP is an image format created by Google in 2010 to make web pages load faster. A WebP image is usually 25–35% smaller than a JPG of the same visual quality, so many websites, shops and image hosts now serve WebP by default. That is why images you save from a browser often end in .webp instead of .jpg.
WebP can be lossy (like JPG) or lossless (like PNG), and it supports transparency and animation. The catch is compatibility. Older photo editors, office software, print shops, some social networks and many upload forms still refuse WebP, or show it as an unknown file. JPG works everywhere, which is why people switch to JPG.
WebP vs JPG at a glance
| WebP | JPG / JPEG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Smaller for the same quality | Larger, but still compact |
| Transparency | Yes | No (filled with a colour) |
| Animation | Yes | No (first frame only) |
| Opens in | Modern browsers and newer apps | Practically every app, device and website |
| Best for | Serving images on a website | Sharing, editing, printing, uploading |
Keep WebP when the image is going on your own website. Switch to JPG when you need to send, edit, print or upload it somewhere that does not accept WebP.
WebP to JPG settings explained
JPG quality
The quality slider controls JPG compression from 40 to 100. Around 90–95 a JPG is visually identical to the source WebP image. Around 75–85 the JPG is much smaller and still fine for email or chat. Below 60 you may see blocky edges. The result list shows the file size of every JPG, so you can see the effect right away.
Background for transparency
A WebP image can contain transparent pixels, such as a logo or a product cut-out. JPG cannot, so those pixels get a solid colour in the JPG. White suits most documents and shops; pick black or any brand colour if you prefer. To keep the transparency, use the WebP to PNG converter instead.
Resize
Choose a maximum width (2560, 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels) or half size to make JPG files smaller. The aspect ratio is always kept and smaller WebP images are never enlarged.
Keep EXIF metadata
Photos saved as WebP sometimes carry EXIF data: camera model, date taken, sometimes GPS location. By default the JPG is clean, which is safer for sharing. Tick Keep EXIF metadata to copy it from the WebP file into the JPG.
.webp to jpg on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android
This page works the same on every system, because the conversion happens in the browser. On Windows and Mac, drag .webp files from File Explorer or Finder straight onto the drop box, or choose a whole folder of WebP images. On iPhone and iPad, tap Choose files and pick WebP images from Photos or Files; the JPG downloads to Files. On Android, tap Choose files and the JPG files go to Downloads.
You may also run into a WebP image disguised as a JPG: a file named photo.jpg that an app refuses to open. Drop it here too. The converter reads the real content, not the name, and writes a true JPG.
Common reasons to convert WebP to JPG
- An upload form, marketplace or job site says the file type is not supported.
- A product photo saved from a shop opens as WebP and your editor cannot open it.
- You want to print a WebP image or put it in a Word or PowerPoint file.
- A WebP picture you sent shows up as a broken attachment for the person who received it.
- You need one format for a whole folder of images before you archive them.
